چکیده

Laser-induced bubbles can be caused by an optical breakdown in water. They are a result of the optodynamical process where the energy of a high intensity laser pulse is converted into the mechanical energy through an optodynamic conversion. At this process the absorbed optical energy causes plasma expansion that in turn initiates dynamic phenomena: spreading of a shock wave and the development of a cavitation bubble. When the cavitation bubble reaches its maximum radius it starts to collapse due to the pressure of the surrounding liquid. This collapse in turn initiates a new bubble growth and bubble collapse. The process therefore repeats itself, resulting in so-called cavitation-bubble oscillations, with a new shock wave being emitted after every collapse. We present an optodynamic characterization of cavitation bubble’s oscillations based on a laser beam-deflection probe. Employed setup enabled us oneor two-dimensional scanning with deflections of a laser probe beam. Deflections were detected with a fast quadrant photodiode.

On-line Optodynamic Monitoring of Laser Materials Processing

A new term “optodynamics” has been introduced to describe a wide range of optically induced dynamic phenomena (Možina & Hrovatin, 1996). A laser pulse is considered not only as a tool in laser material processing but also as a generator of information about the material transformation. The information is retained and conveyed by different kinds of optically induced mechanical waves generated du...

Optodynamic energy-conversion efficiency during an Er:YAG-laser-pulse delivery into a liquid through different fiber-tip geometries.

When an erbium-laser pulse is directed into water through a small-diameter fiber tip (FT), the absorption of the laser energy superheats the water and its boiling induces a vapor bubble. We present the influence of different FT geometries and pulse parameters on the vapor-bubble dynamics. In our investigation, we use a free-running erbium: yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) (λ=2.94 μm) laser that...

Characterization and Corrosion Behavior of Hydroxyapatite- Coated Titanium Substrates Prepared Through Laser Induced Liquid Deposition Technique

Titanium and titanium alloys are often used in orthopedic surgery and dentistry because of their especial characteristics such as biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance. However, their bio- inertness is the most serious drawback for biomedical applications. Therefore, a bioactive coating like hydroxyapatite (HA) is coated on their surface. In this regard, in the prese...

Laser-Induced Bubbles in Glycerol-Water Mixtures

In order to study the effect of viscosity on bubbles in a cavitating fluid, the properties of laser-induced bubbles and the resulting luminescence pulses are examined for various glycerol-water mixtures over 1-8 bars of pressure. Bubbles are generated by a Nd:YAG laser, with the bubble radius monitored by a laser-beam photodiode system and the luminescence structure measured by fast photomultip...

Generation of laser-induced cavitation bubbles with a digital hologram.

We demonstrate a method using a spatial light modulator (SLM) to generate arbitrary 2-D spatial configurations of laser induced cavitation bubbles. The SLM acts as a phase hologram that controls the light distribution in the focal plane of a microscope objective. We generate cavitation bubbles over an area of 380 x 380 microm(2) with a 20x microscope objective through absorption of the pulsed l...
